GoJi also known as in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as Gou Qi Zi.  Three to four ounces of  this juice is being touted as a benefit to the immune and hormonal systems. If you'd like to try a version of this made at home, steam and take 2 - 3 times a day for wasting and thirsting  Chinese Materia Medica page 334 (Dan Bensky, Andrew Gamble with Ted Kaptchuk) The Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus With Chinese Medicine (Bob Flaws, Lynn Kuchinski and Robert Casanas, M.D) recommend Gou Qi Zi both for hypoglycemic and blood lipid lowering effect.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kombucha Hydrosol flavor is sour and bitter and its nature is warm. It enters the Liver and Stomach channels, and functions to scatters stasis, stops bleeding, resolves toxins, and kills parasites.

During the Tang Dynasty in China, (around 800 AD), a well was dug in the shadow of wall near a Buddhist temple, a wall covered in goji vines. The vine shed scores of berries into the well over the years. Many of the monks and pilgrims who prayed there and drank the well?s waters were blessed with robust health and maintained their teeth, hair color, and healthy complexions well into their eighties. As word of the fruit?s benefit spread, many visitors to the temple took goji vines with them to plant in the home valleys, spreading the vines throughout Tibet, China, and India.

The Goji berry is a deep-red, dried fruit about the same size as a raisin and tastes somewhat like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. They should be dried but not too hard. They are perhaps the most nutritionally dense fruit on the planet. They contain 18 kinds of amino acids (six times higher than bee pollen) and contain all 8 essential amino acids (such as isoleucine and tryptophan). They contain up to 21 trace minerals (the main ones being zinc, iron, copper, calcium, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus) and are the richest source of carotenoids, including beta-carotene (more beta carotene than carrots), of all known foods or plants on earth!  They contain 500 times the amount of vitamin C, by weight, than oranges making them second only to camu camu berries as the richest vitamin C source on earth. Goji berries also contain vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin E. Contain polysaccharides which fortify the immune system. A polysaccharide found in this fruit has been found to be a powerful secretagogue (a substance that stimulates the secretion of rejuvenative human growth hormone by the pituitary gland).

Goji berries have been traditionally regarded as a longevity, strength-building, and sexual potency food of the highest order. In several study groups with elderly people the berry was given once a day for 3 weeks and the results showed that appetite improved in 95% of the patients, 95% of the patients slept better, and 35% of the patients partially recovered their sexual function. All of the patients spirit and optimism increased significantly.

A good daily intake of Goji berries is 10-30 grams (a small handful). Goji berries may be used as snacks or mixed with recipes or smoothies like other dried fruits.

The famed Li Qing Yuen, who lived to the age of 252 years (1678-1930), consumed Goji berries daily. The life of Li Qing Yuen is the most well-documented case of extreme longevity known. (see picture above)
Li was a herbalist, and skilled in Chi Kung and spent much of his life in the mountain ranges. It is said that he changed his diet to consume little meat or root vegetables and limited his consumption of grain. Instead, he lived mainly on steamed above-ground vegetables and herbs, consuming both goji berries and panax ginseng on a daily basis. In 1927 General Yang Sen invited Li to his residence in Wann Hsien, Szechuan province, where a picture was taken of him. Li died the next year when he returned from this trip, reportedly after a banquet was presented in his honor by a government official.
After he died, General Yang investigated Li's background to determine the truth of his story, and later wrote a report about him entitled: A Factual Account of the 250 Year-Old Good-Luck Man , which was published by the Chinese and Foreign Literature Storehouse, Taipei, Taiwan.

Pure Kombucha Extract we produce our own hydrosol from our own kombucha mushroom tea. This imparts all the water-soluble nutrients that has made kombucha mushroom tea world famous as well as an acceptable level of acetic acid (vinegar) that allows a nice preservative action.  According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kombucha Vinegar?s flavor is sour and bitter and its nature is warm. It enters the Liver and Stomach channels, and its functions to scatter stasis, stops bleeding, resolves toxins, and kill parasites. In TCM,  Chinese herbs are stir-fried in Vinegar in order to either help target them to the Liver-Gallbladder or to increase their functions of moving the Qi and Blood. Vinegar is sour and astringent tasting yet this taste is offset by Goji?s natural sweet taste.

It is invaluable as a natural source ingredient with emollient like properties which can soften and soothe the skin and it assists the outer epidermis is retaining moisture. This helps to explain why it is one of the most popular cosmetic additives used today.
Other uses include its solvency action which aids herbalists in extracting botanical properties from plant materials without the use of alcohol. This is especially helpful for those with alcohol sensitivities as most liquid herbal extracts contain alcohol. In TCM terms glycerin is neutral and though tonifying it is on the cloying side.
